My girlfriend recieved a ipaq pocket pc h5550 from her work about 3 months ago and has done nothing with it. Last night I was messing around and freaked her out by turning off/on the TV and Stereo from her handheld. Now I am hooked and want one of my own but I am unsure what is the best value/pc to go with. With about 4-600 to spend do you have any suggestions? Where do I go for comparison shopping and reviews?
I am very happy with my new Dell Axim X50v but since you already have an Ipaq in the family you might rather stick with something that can share more accessories (cables, chargers,etc...). If not the X50v is right in your price range and there are deals all the time right now at the DELL Website
Oh, and welcome to the addiction
Hello and welcome to Pocket PC addict. You do have quite a few different options in that price range. Dell is one of the better values for the money, but Drum4ever has a point. If you go with an iPAQ unit you may be able to share keyboards, cables, GPS receivers, cases, you name it. But you would have to go with the H5550 model to make sure that everything was compatible.
I am not to worried about sharing hardware/software with the better half since hers is on-loan from her company. In a couple of years or months they may upgrade to something better that comes along or they may all start using a blackberry system. Thanks so far for the input, keep it coming please!
I have an HP iPAQ2200 and love it. The iPAQ2200 also has the ability to control audio and video equipment, but not all PPC's have the extended infrared transmitter to be useful for controling electronic equipment. Some things to consider are the number and type of memory slots. The 2200 is ideal for me since it has a compact flash slot and my Canon digital camera uses Compact Flash for saving pictures. I can remove the card from the camera and put it directly into my iPAQ for viewing pictures. Some of the newer PPC's have greater resolution which would be great, however, I am not ready to change my PPC yet. You will find a range of different sized units. Smaller is much better for me. The 2200 doesn't have built in WiFi so I have to use a WiFi Compact Flash card ton connect wirelessly to my home network which is not the most convenient. I would suggest reading web site forums on sites such as this one to find out how people are using their PPC's and how you might also. I visit this site daily and if you visited such sites for a week or two, you would probably get some good insight on features, durability, and usability.
Good luck and have fun.[/code]
