These are all my favorite Freeware programs, with links and a description. They are in alphabetical order: Agile Messenger:
This is an instant messaging client with multiple services built into the same program. You can use you AIM, MSN, Yahoo, ICQ, and XMPP screen names with this program, and it's also available for some cell phones, smartphones, and palm. Pocket VCS:
A great little Atari Emulator, plays roms like an old Atari 2600 console (I still have one that I can pull out and play!) Lets you play sound, choose controls, and even has the ability to emulate remote and paddle controls. Warlords anyone? Betaplayer:
This is a nice Divx player for your Pocket PC. Features include playback speed, zoom, orientation, color settings, hot keys, and it'll automatically keep your backlight running during playback. All you would expect from a good Divx player. (See PocketDivxEncoder further down.) CabInstl:
CabInstl allows you to install .cab files with much more control. You can use it to install programs in a .cab file onto a storage card, you can choose not to delete the cab file after it is installed, and you can make it the default program when you open a cab file. Valentin Iliescu Chess:
I'll let the website help out with all the features in this one.
A fully-featured freeware chess game based on Microsoft® .NET Compact Framework:
* easy-to-use interface with nice graphics
* 4 playing modes: play locally (against the computer or in two-player mode) or over the internet (against a chess XML Web Service or against one of your MSN Messenger buddies)
* 3 versions: for PocketPC, for Windows Smartphone and for Windows desktop
* chess engine with 6 difficulty levels
* full understanding of the chess rules: draw by repetition / by 50 move rule / by insufficient material, castling, en passant etc.
* save/load games in FEN (Forsyth-Edwards Notation) format
* automatically resumes an interrupted game
* board editor
* move history in standard algebraic notation
* two image sets to choose from
* can rotate the board
* gives next move hints
* small size, under 200KB for both mobile versions
From my experience it has been a great Chess program. Mammoth Software Quick Conversion:
This allows you to convert between different units of measurement in the following categories: Area, speed, force, pressure and stress, line density, time, density, spread rate (by volume or mass), computer, angular, torque, mass, volume, length, power, energy, and temperature. You can (As the name suggests) convert between measurements very quickly, and you can also make your own custom conversions. (See Readme.txt) PocketDict:
This is the dictionary I use because it's free, it's actually a reader, but you can download a dictionary (based a public domain version of Webster’s 1913 Unabridged English dictionary (OPTED), that contains more than 180000 entries) Here Mobile Atelier (NfCanvas 2):
This is a drawing program that you can use for making anything from quick doodles to masterpieces of genius (Talent-dependant and not included) It allows you to use layers, easily switch brushes and colors, and many more features. Leo's Flight Simulator Beta 8:
A flight simulator for the Pocket PC, whod've thunkit? As unbelievable and corny as this sounds, it's actually a viable flight simulator. The quality isn't anything amazing, so I'm guessing you would have no problem running it even if you don't have the latest and greatest Pocket PC, but it's still 3D and as such would still need good hardware. It's fun to fly and has many planes included. Hang Him High Hangman
This is a game I found when everyone was playing hangman and I wanted to join in on the fun!
Okay, so my logic may be a little off, but this is a great game. Easy to get started with and comes with a list of words and phraises to play with, you can make your own wordlists and use other people's too. JB Frequency Tuner v1.5:
This little program will measure the frequency of the sound coming through you're Pocket PC's microphone and convert it to a note. It will also tell you how many cents low or high you are for tuning. Pocketmind PocketMusic MP3 Player:
This is an MP3 player with winamp skin support, and all the features of winamp 2.x. It's an annoying registration process, but it IS free, and it's the best MP3 player for Pocket PC I've come across. PocketNES:
Well it seems the cat is out of the bag, I'm a gamer, and a retro one at that For years my console was an Atari, then a NES for $15 at a garage sale. I immediately fell in love with the addictive yet simple gameplay and graphics. This lets you get the same games onto your Pocket PC! This emulator runs well on a 233 Audiovox Maestro, so it should run well for you no matter what you have. Great sound and speed, fully customizable. PHM Registry Editor: Pocket PC Edition:
This is the program to have for tweaking your Pocket PC's registry, fully featured and easy to use. There are also registry tweaks on the site! Back up your Pocket PC before doing anything in the registry, in case you mess up. If your Pocket PC becomes unusable do a hard-reset. PeMon:
A performance monitor for your pocket pc. You can view running threads and current workload. PocketRAR:
If you need a archiver for Pocket PC (.zip and .rar) This is the program to have. It's simple and fast, and made by the people that brought you WinRAR, www.rarlabs.com PocketDivxEncoder:
This allows you to encode video files into Divx format for use with Betaplayer and other Divx-players, I'll edit this later after I use it more extensively. Pocket Screen Capture:
A very simple screen capture program for your Pocket PC, you run the program, prepare your screen capture, press ok, and after 5 seconds it saves the screen to a .bmp. Simple and free. Crosswords:
This game is like Scrabble, you can download many dictionaries for it including foreign language versions, and play against a human or computer. ScreenToggle:
ScreenToggle is very simple. When you want to conserve battery, you run it. It turns of the screen and backlight but keeps your Pocket PC running. Run it again and it turns on your screen and backlight. Pocket SNES:
My last console emulator, Pocket SNES is like the others, great rom support, sound emulation, and control customizability. If you liked the SNES console then now you can carry it around in your Pocket! User-Updated version for Axim (Try this version if you can't get it to work) Thanks Drum4Ever for that link! Leo's Space Combat:
This is a fun game, but it is in beta so it may not work for you. You get to fly around either in an asteroid belt or in earth orbit and fight enemies (think star wars x-wing type battles) Jonathan Sach's Ephemeris:
This allows you to view the moon percent of illumination for any month, use the sun or moon for a compass, and see sun/moon rise and set times. FreeSwapper:
I set out to find a simple and addictive game for when I needed to kill some time, what I found was FreeSwapper, where you try to line of 3 (Or more) similar balls in a row on a large grid of different balls. Daniel Jackson's QTris:
Tetris is a fun game, and this is the best version for pocket pc I have come across so far. Besides being made by one of my favorite fictional characters, it has great gameplay and controls. Even if you have another version of tetris installed, give this one a try. WiFiFoFum:
If you know what WarDriving is, this is a great program for use on your Pocket PC and desktop. You can choose the wireless device and consequentially, it will work on many devices where MiniStumbler won't.
Note: Although the names are not always in alphabetical order, they are in the order of what I have named the file on my computer (E.G. Atari Emulator instead of the program name Pocket VCS, Or Chess instead of Valentin Iliescu Chess) Favorite Pocket PC Freeware Sites: http://www.freewareppc.com/ http://www.snapfiles.com/pocketpc/pocketpcfw.html http://www.pocketpcsoft.net/php/pagefreeware.php http://www.bypaul.com/PPCFS/Free-Utilities.htm http://www.marcusvorwaller.com/weblo...es/000130.html http://www2r.biglobe.ne.jp/~tascal/d...e.htm#Freeware
Note: All emulators require you to own the games you play on them.
[b]In closing, please let me know if you've got a program for me to add to this list. It must be free (Not a trial) and all you have to do is send me a link. Please also let me know if you have a program that performs the function of one of these programs, but better. I'll try it and if I agree with you I'll switch it out.
I may be a little confused - doesn't take much to confuse me but it seems to me that this application is not freeware but costs $4.95.
I did think this was a review of freeware?

It is all freeware. Please let me know which application you speak of so I can check it.
Sorry I realised that I didn't give the application I was referring to.
u-CharMap seems to not be freeware unless I've misunderstood.
The link from the application on PocketGear has it listed at $4.95

I see that, thank you very much for catching that! I got it off of an old site giving it out as freeware. I'm debating if I should remove it completely or change the link to the old site.

Hey, does agile messenger have the feature that when you connect to the Internet it automatically connects too? I am looking for a multi-messenger type of application that will do like Microsoft messenger, and automatically connect when you are online.

No darnit, that would be a cool feature though. Hmm...I could make a program that automatically launches an application when you connect to the internet. I wonder if any exist already, programming in eVB is painful compared to VB.
