Weekly Tip: Saving Space With Your Voice Notes

If you record a lot of voice notes like me you may realize Just how quickly the audio notes can eat away at your storage memory. I use voice notes for all sorts of things: recording tasks while I am driving, recording notes while with a client - I even record the tall tales. my children tell at the dinner table. However before I knew it my notes consumed 13 MB of memory. If you like to keep voice notes or to use your record button alot this is a simple tip that will help you cut down on the amount of memory your notes use. alternatively, you can use this tip to increase the quality of your recording as well.
Step 1: Open your Pocket PCs settings by going to Start >Settings then choose the input setting (keyboard icon )

step 2: Choose the options tab.

Step 3: use the Voice recording format dropdown to choose a lets memory hogging setting such as 8,000 Hz, 8bit Mono

Step 4: Be sure to test the quality by recording a quick note to make sure the quality is acceptable.

Hopefully this tip will save you some of that all too precious memory on your Pocket PC.

Ya know....there's one option of the PPC that gets little to no use in my world....I've just never given it a try...in fact I mapped my record button to rotate my screen in WM2003SE....Maybe I should rethink this and try some voice notes...I suspect once I start, I'll be saying why haven't I been doing this before? 8)

I agree this can be very useful. I like Brad's suggestion to record while driving. ...one item I would like to suggest in conjuction with this is a little screen plug in I found on pocket pc freewares... it is called Audio Note which allows you to see the number of notes you have recorded in anygiven day that have not been listened to so that you never forget you have recorded notes that need to be played. After you play them the "you have new notes" display is set back to no notes. Handy if you are like me and you forget you recorded them in the first place. Here is the link : http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php?soft=337
EDIT: and btw, this app works just fine ...so don't worry about the review. I have never had any problems with it at all and it is transparant ...furthermore, you can tap on it and it will take you straight to all of your notes right from the today screen.

one more question,
one thing that bothers me about a recording is that I cannot record without tapping the screen...hard to do while driving....I guess if you had a voice command this would be good...

hmm...It's been so long since I used the standard notes app, that I can't remember exactly, but what happens if you hold the record button? It should be one-click launches notes click-n-hold = record note

OK stupid here...I figured it out you have to hold the record button down and therefore avoid tapping the screen. Sorry...I got it.
