I am not exactly sure who the author of the article is, but Pocket PC Magazine has posted a tell-all story 40 Things I Did with My Pocket PC in a Week that details a whopping number of tasks one can accomplish with their Pocket PC given the right software and motivation. This is a great answer for anyone wondering "So what is the big deal with Pocket PC? Why should I get one and not a Palm?" The author describes all sorts of tasks from watching TV on his Pocket PC to emulating an XP desktop with eXPerience. "I wear too many hats! I am a full-time graduate student, a youth pastor, a library assistant, a husband, and a father. Not too long ago I was an extremely unorganized person, forgetting and mismanaging important information. But now I’m the opposite because of the new love of my life—my iPAQ Pocket PC.
A few years ago I bought a Handspring Visor (a Palm OS device) and eventually migrated to the Pocket PC. Since then, I’ve had one HP Jornada and three iPAQ Pocket PCs. I’m currently using the iPAQ h2210 with an add-on iPAQ Micro Keyboard. I connect to the Internet via Wi-Fi when a wireless connection is available, and by Bluetooth through my cell phone the rest of the time. My Pocket PC is so integrated into my daily life now that I can not imagine functioning without it...."
Give it a read, it's great!
This is a great article. I love reading these types of blurbs just to measure up how much I use my PPC compared to someone else...plus I learned alot of new ways to use it....
One thing mentioned in the article is:
Quote:
24. I changed TV channels.
My iPAQ h2210 is one of a few iPAQ models with a more powerful consumer-rated infrared port, and it came preloaded with the Nevo remote control software (http://www.mynevo.com/nevo_pda.htm). While I still use my factory remote-controls at home, using Nevo in a public place on someone else’s TV is really cool. (My wife seems to think this is a really nerdy thing to do!)
How can I tell if my Toshiba e805 has a consumer-rated infrared port or not?

It doesn't. Very few devices actually have them currently but I think OEMs are starting to realize that this can be important to consumers.

My name is Faron Davis, and I wrote this article for PPC Mag.
I love this site and it is one of a few main sites that I read daily! This is where I keep up with new product releases and find out about the latest ppc capabilities.
Since March (when I wrote "40 things"), I have actually "discovered" a few other uses that have become daily necessities, not the least of which is the Microsoft Voice Command software and a 4gb Hitachi microdrive! Now I have about 25 albums of music on my device all of the time (not to mention the extra video files I can carry) and I can access any of them hands free with the awesome voice command software (this is a great app to use while driving).
Thanks for your comments and for reading my article, and have a great day!

Hi Faron,
Nice article. Did you write it on the PPC?

I wrote down some new apps to check out. I love my iPaq. I also love all (ok, most) of the software developers out there that keep making it more and more indespensible.
Thanks,
Fourmyle
Actually, I wrote the first draft on my iPAQ (really only an outline), but I completed it on my laptop because I needed to insert screenshots and it was just plain easier. Alas, some things still need a 15 inch screen.
