I outgrew my old CF card plus it was beginning to flake out on me.
When I got the new card I put it in the PPC and it recognized it fine. Then I used a card reader to copy the files from the old card to my computer, then put them on the new card.
The PPC then said that it couldn't recognize the card and asked me what driver to install.
So I pulled it out reformatted the card from the PPC and created a folder on it with no problem (that I could see on the PC).
Copied the files over and it would not read the card again.
What am I doing wrong? I just rebuilt my PPC two weeks ago so I would hate to do that again. Any suggestions?
Are you using SE? If so, this seems to be a recurring problem for a number of posters over at BH. The thread is here.
As for a fix, the best thing to do is to reduce your Today Plug-ins to no more than two and to keep trying to reset your WiFi settings:
Quote:
Typically, the message (unrecognized media) occurs after I switch off the WiFi using the software notification icon in the top task bar and then resume from a suspend. After closing down the message, it then becomes impossible to switch the WiFi back on using the WiFi icon. Also, the Wireless LAN Manager and Wireless Networks applets will then refuse to load. I am effectilvely left without anyway to power the WiFi back on. If I try and soft reset, the device will typically lock up during the reset (presumably when it is searching for/ trying to switch the WiFi on and failing). Occasionally, running the Connectivity Doctor (which always identifys that the problem is that the WiFi is switched off!) and tapping the "Apply" button will switch the WiFi back on, but most times even this will fail.
The only way to get out of this scenario is to switch off the WiFi hardware swich (at the bottom of the machine) and then do a soft reset. This prevents the device from locking up during the soft reset. Switching the hardware WiFi switch back on will now restore the WiFi.
I can't speak for this myself as I'm not using SE and don't have any access to WiFi. But the problem also appears at times in wm2003FE.
Hope this helps
I'm using WM 2003 and right now WiFi is turned off with the power switch. I'm in the middle of trying to copy the files through ActiveSync to see if this helps. 510 MB sure take a long time.
I was also wondering if there is a way to change the name of a CF card through the preinstalled software (genius me copied most of my utilities on the CF card, let that be a lesson to all).
I have three entries CF Card, CF Card2, CF Card3 that all show that they have an inbox on them although they were the same card that was just being recognized as something else when the card began to flake, I really would like to have the new card name CF Card, that way all of my shortcuts will work without having to reinstall all of my shortcuts.
I really don't think this should be that hard to do, I'm just missing something?
Well I figured out how to change the CF cards name. (through windows explorer).
I guess to phrase the question simply.
How do switch CF cards without having to reinstall everything?
I haven't read the Brighthand thread and I haven't had this problem on a CF card. But I did have a problem with SD cards and I found that I had to format the card in the PPC with a utility like CNETX Flash Format or Pocket Mechanic using the right settings or the card would act funny.
Formatting the card with my desktop pc just didn't seem to work correctlly.
