Petition: Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition for HP IPAQ 1940
If you have an iPAQ 1940/1945 device and were looking forward to the upgrade to Windows Mobile 2003, it looks as though you won't be able to get it. However, there is a petition directed at Carleton S. Fiorina, Chairman of the Board and CEO of Hewlett Packard to influence the company to provide upgrades for the 1940/45 devices. "Without upgrades from Hewlett Packard, users are relegated to purchasing brand new Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition for Pocket PC devices at great expense. Since the IPAQ 1940/1945 is still offered, even brand new IPAQ 1940/1945 owners would soon have an outdated device.
As such, we users of IPAQ 1940/1945 computing devices are requesting that Hewlett Packard offer a reasonable commercial Windows Mobile 2003 Second edition for Pocket PC upgrade service or software package for the IPAQ 1940/1945 handheld computers."
At the time of this writing, there were only 9 signatures - but it is a new petition and it's still early. Thanks for the link Hantra!
This is simply not fair. Anyone who owns a pocket pc should be ticked about this move by HP.
Blatant butt-holiness on their part in my opinion. Yes I own the 1945, but even if I didn't, I think this is ridiculous.

In my opinion, if you bought your pocket pc with Windows Mobile 2003, then all upgrades for that OS should be available to you. Period and point blank.

How much ROM does the 1940 have? That might be an issue with WM2003 SE. That aside it sounds like most of the changes are aimed at high resolution display devices. While on the fly landscape flipping is nice it might not be that big an issue for many.
I went through this with Toshiba when they didn't offer a WM2003 upgrade for the e740 so I know how angry it can make you. This update is not as big an update as the one going from PPC2002 to WM2003 from everything I've read.
A petition is a good way to get your voices heard. I suspect the Axim owners have one going by now, too.
