Boeing is going to be offering high speed WiFi Internet connectivity by Connexion which will allow you to check your email, connect to your company's VLAN or surf Pocket PC Addict from 10,000 feet!
Their pricing is broken down into two categories: Flat Rate Pricing Option: (Unlimited access to the Internet) $29.95 for long-haul flights (more than six hours); $19.95 for medium-haul flights (between three and six hours); and $14.95 for flights less than three hours. Metered Pricing Option: 30-minute starter package for $9.95 with rates of $0.25 per minute thereafter.
You know what? This makes me hate the travelers of today. When I was traveling full time, I was lucky if I got a 3 month old copy of Time Magazine to read. Today, you guys have Pocket Movies, MP3s, and NOW WiFi.
Even if my company didn't spring for the Flight WiFi I would pay out of pocket in a heartbeat if I was heading cross-country. How about you?
First of all its Boeing .... and in my opinion once the Federal Government can replace Boeing on all of its weapon systems Boeing will go the way of all other poorly managed companies... (just had to let that out)
Now lets get to this system... a few months ago Boeing try to unvail this product with a PR flight and the access worked for 20 minutes of a 5 hour flight. More importantly it starts to lead to proving that the turn off your cell phones and electronic devices is and always was a scam. I do work in this field and cell phones do not interfere with aircraft signals.... logic will tell you that regardless of the phones being on or off... cellular waves are still present.
I think the fee schedule is way too high, but just my personal opinion.
I think the fee is a little high...but man that would be nice to be able to surf while on my weekly flights....but then again....I'd rather watch my movies instead of shelling out some money for a 2.5 hour flight...but the longer flights I would shell it out..

be nice if they get it to work... I have my doubts knowing Boeing and with their reputation it will take kick backs and procurement irregualarities.

Isn't that the way it goes though? You have the press there and it all goes down the tubes?
I wonder if all flights would require a Systems Engineer to maintain the equipment? I bet they'll need one if it catches on. And I know what someone is gonna say. "Can't the flight attendant learn to reset the router?" IMHO, no...non-technical people have the worst luck with that sort of thing. And forget about having the pilot do it. I don't want to fly on a plane where the pilot has to worry with networking!
