Got VoIP? :P The Management Network Group (Nasdaq: TMNG), a provider of management consulting services to the global communications industry, along with partners ADC, inCode, IP3 Networks and IPWireless will demonstrate a unique wireless, IP-based broadband video conferencing solution, using video conferencing technology from France Telecom, at the CTIA Wireless 2004 Conference at booth 27-10, on March 22-24, 2004 in Atlanta, GA.
This first-of-its-kind wireless demonstration will bring together iPAQ and PC-based VoIP and full-motion video communication over both WiFi and UMTS-based networks to create video conferences, that can be billed by a commercially available software application.
'In the wireless industry, voice communications have been the dominant application,'said Ron Angner, TMNG Principal. 'However, with the rapidly expanding bandwidth now available from WiFi and 3G networks, video calls and video conferences will become an area of revenue growth for wireless carriers from both business and personal use consumers.'
The companies will deliver a hands-on demonstration of wireless video conferencing originating from a 3G, UMTS-based PC and terminating in a WiFi environment, producing accounting records which will be processed by ADC's Singl.eView billing system which will generate invoices on the CTIA show floor.
TMNG developed the business and operational processes for this application, defined the system, functional and interface requirements, and developed and performed the end-to-end test and service assurance functions to insure the application could be provisioned, billed and maintained. The wireless and core network technical resources will be provided by inCode, with the gateway and WiFi interfaces, provided by IP Networks. The 3G-UMTS system will be provided by IPWireless and the video conferencing application, eConf, to be supplied by France Telecom.
Key demonstration highlights will include:
-- A WiFi equipped iPAQ on the CTIA show floor
-- Two WiFi equipped laptops on the CTIA show floor
-- A portable PC in Atlanta, connected to the network via UMTS
-- A laptop in the San Diego Wireless Lab connected via UMTS
I've been watching this VOIP....I don't know why I haven't taken the plunge yet....I guess telephones are so important to everyday communication that I don't want to screw something up....but I would love to have my PPC hooked up as a phone....I'm keeping my eye on this..

I downloaded and installed WiFive and started randomly dialing wifive phone numbers. My first connection was with a fellow in FRANCE! It was wild to talk using my Pocket PC...It sounded pretty clear for an overseas call
Then Hantra loaded it on his Dell and we had a conversation.
Here's the skinny: I heard an echo when I spoke. His voice was very distorted until he placed the Axim at arm length. After that though, it sounded just great! He said it was the best VoIP trial that he had had and mine too.
French Guy: "Bonjour" Brad: "Howdy! I'm trying this new applicaton out!" French Guy: "Pardon moi, Monseiuur?" Brad: "I said, I'm trying this new application out to tell the readers of my website all about it!" French Guy: "Stewpeeed Amereeecannn!"
