Here's sort of a cool Pocket PC story that hits close to home for me. Krispy Kreme doughnuts, the doughnut shop that started right around the corner from me, has now decided to roll out more than 500 Intermec 700 Pocket PCs to drivers and delivery personell to make sure the doughnuts remain in the hands of our faithful law enforcement officers (KIDDING!). Krispy Kreme says drivers now are able to use mobile computers and printers at retail locations to record deliveries and returns, access customer sales history, print invoices and capture a digital signature for delivery verification.
Krispy Kreme selected the 740 Color because of its ease of use, battery performance and data transfer speed. The 700 Series was named the Best Industrial Class PDA in 2003 by Pen Computing Magazine and was ranked the number one industrial PDA used in field service and manufacturing by Venture Development Corp. (VDC), a market research and consulting company.
"We took advantage of the Pocket PC operating system to simplify the integration of the applications we developed to run on the 700 Series with Krispy Kreme's back-office systems. We could focus on creating applications to make delivery, customer service and reconciliation operations easier because we could count on the mobile and legacy systems to work together," said Velocitor President Rich Pacella.
"Krispy Kreme is a rapidly growing business with a very loyal customer base. We are proud that Krispy Kreme trusts Intermec equipment to make sure fresh doughnuts are always available at its retail locations as the company continues to expand into new regions," said Intermec Vice President Mike Colwell.
