Here's some new calendar research being conducted by Microsoft and the University of Maryland.
DateLens is a unique user interface for your calendar. At first glance, it looks like a conventional calendar. However, it uses zooming interface techniques to create a fluid visualization. You can zoom in on any area in your calendar by moving your cursor to the spot.
You can bias the view, so that you can look at three different months with a single click. DateLens also allows you to search on anything in your calendar. This project is a joint effort between the VIBE group at Microsoft Research and Ben Bederson's group at the University of Maryland. Watch the video YOU HAVE TO WATCH THIS!!! It makes the calendar very intuitive! Very Cool! 8) About Datelens
Calendar applications for small handheld devices such as PDAs are growing in popularity. This led us to develop DateLens, a novel calendar interface for PDAs. It supports users in performing planning and analysis tasks by using a fisheye representation of dates coupled with compact overviews, user control over the visible time period, and integrated search. This enables users to see overviews and to easily navigate the calendar structure, and to discover patterns and outliers.
