Talk the Talk
Well, you learn something every day. Some people out there are taking their Pocket PC Addiction to new levels by trying to mod them into conversation partners Actually, using text-to-speech technology, these Sydney scientists are turning their iPAQ Pocket PCs into little errand-boys that will fetch all sorts of information for them. If the scientist asks a question that is too tricky or beyond the scope of data found on the Pocket PC, it will log onto the Internet to find the answer! "A raised eyebrow. A whispered answer. A subtle conversation for two takes on new meaning when one of the participants is a mere machine.
Talking machines have long been a staple of sci-fi, but Sydney researchers have used today's off-the-shelf products to convert an ordinary PDA from a gadget to an assistant that listens and responds."
One small warning: This technology doesn't make your Pocket PC a real person :P and as such "Right now, InCA cannot tell if its owner points or frowns, but the system does use these principles to communicate back."
