There was that divx movie thing a few years ago, where you rented a special divx disk that only played a number of times, or for a period of time. that flopped, and is generally not discussed anymore.
The current divx is a video compression format - think of mp3 for video - you need a divx player, like pocket mpv. for the most part, you're looking at about 120 meg or so for a full pocket pc optomized movie (probably in 2 60 meg or so files). I have seen one full divx movie on my ipaq, and frankly it lost a lot because of the small screen and it hurt my eyes - but better than nothing!
I had an opportunity to view part of the movie Shrek on a Pocket PC that was encoded in divx - don't worry MPAA, my kids own the DVD -- so stop nagging!
Anyway, that movie was so clear on the PPC it blew me away - the sound was very good as well. Took up probably 160MB in all so it had to go on a SD card, but I can definately see myself watching a movie on PPC if I am on an airplane.
