I saw a question in the newsgroups regarding this very subject. What to do about minor screen scratches?
Screen protectors are a good idea, but I have become lazy with using them recently and stopped applying them to my screen(s). Solution: A lot of people, including me use STP son of a gun to hide screen scratches (as long as they are minor).
My technique is as follows:
1. Take a cotton ball and spray STP on it until it's pretty wet then I wipe it onto the screen as 'thick' as possible until the screen is wet from it.
2. I let it sit for 5 or 10 minutes and then buff the screen with a soft wash cloth.
3, I repeat step 1 two times
4. After all of that, I try to use a soft glasses cleaning cloth to do the finishing touches.
Any other tipsters want to share their screen scratch techniques?
I've never tried that. The one change I would make: If you're putting this goop on a cotton ball fairly thickly, and then you're putting a thick amount of the goop on your screen, do you have to worry about it dripping/creeping behind the screen into the electronics? Maybe a better change would be to apply the goop, and then let your unit sit facing down so the goop can't drip inside.
of course, YOU SHOULD USE A SCREEN PROTECTOR!!!!!
Those darn Pocket PC Addicts...you try to raise them right, and they go and do a fool thing like use their Pocket PC's naked!
Didn't you learn anything from those iPAQ 3630's whose digitizers wore out by character recognizer? A good screen protector can really help, and are useful if you use one of those full screen keyboards and type with your greasy fingers.
I used to use a G2 which was a bulletproof, glossy glassy/feeling protector - i've since switched to a prototype nobody has heard of, but it is a rubbery type of membrane - was a pain to apply, but it feels like paper, is anti-glare, and really has enhanced my PDA useage - Boxwave has a similar one I have seen but not tried - I'd just avoid the disposable type like those write-shields. Okay, end of rant.
So sue me...WAIT scratch that.
It goes without saying, never soak your Pocket PC in questionable liquid. The thing about using a cotton ball is that the STP is contained and can be applied to certain areas only. Personally, using this method, it's very difficult to get even close to the edges with the STP - and that's a good thing.

now, now, i'm sure with practice you can get much closer to the edges...
