Mapopolis, who ranks in at least the top two of my favorite GPS providers (in some ways tying with Destinator, some ways beating Destinator) has announced a few good things lately - they´re the first (only?) provider with something they call ClearRoute which uses your mobile internet connection to determine traffic slowdowns and reroute you accordingly. Now I´ve seen the press release (and seen the light!) - for roughly $300 - $350, the price of some vendor´s inferior systems, Mapopolis offers their full blown Pocket PC and Palm Navigation solutions (but wait) - they ALSO include a BLUETOOTH GPS RECEIVER - WITH A DISPLAY!!!! I´ve seen BT receivers from Socket and others which retailed for $400 or so - some with software, some standalone. The mapopolis software is roughly $100 for the top package, so you´re paying a paltry $200 to $250 for a BLUETOOTH GPS receiver with a display (think LCD that gives you a bit of information if you don´t have your PDA with you). Ultracool! Gotta get my hands on this! BTW - I use Mapopolis as my primary GPS solution - it worked flawlessly when I was away in Florida, and it works great for my distant local driving (not used to the grocery store, but used when schlepping to see the inlaws, etc.). A GPS solution can vastly increase the functionality of your Pocket PC, and I´ve found Mappy works just about as well as the $2,000 factory unit in my wife´s van. Check it out...
