Ok, so I´m reading this article over at the San Jose Business Journal. According to them, there is a study in the European Respiratory Journal that reports sitting for long periods of time in front of a computer can cause life threatening blood clots (the same problem caused by airline passengers on long flights). Anyway, while I´m reading it, my legs started aching and I think I feel a lump! Those meddling doctors!
"The report centers on a case from New Zealand in which a young man who spent up to 18 hours a day sitting at his computer nearly died after developing a massive blood clot that formed in his leg veins, broke off and traveled to his lungs, a condition called pulmonary embolism. "
What do you think about all this? Is it a real concern or just a bunch of hooey?
The funniest thing happened today. My boss walks by, hears me on the phone and ASSUMES that I am talking to someone I haven´t talked to about something I have no need to even talk about. And then she shares this alleged fact with the entire management team today in a meeting. .
Then she fires out an e-mail to our corporate headquarters and says the same thing. So basicaly, this is a corporate-wide initiative that has already been approved at the VP level, and allegedly I am saying that it doesn´t work. In actuality, I wasn´t even talking about the same project when she overheard me on the phone! heh. . .

Hangon. . .
Sorry. .
Whew! I started getting lightheaded, and passed out on the keyboard. . . I need to walk around and dislodge my CLOT. BBL.
The problem can be real, and yes it could happen by sitting at a computer for extended periods of time. The best solution is to move around frequently, the next best solution is compression socks. These are socks that are used to treat varicose veins, but they have also been proven to help prevent blood clots when travelling by plane.
