I am new to the wireless networking world and I am wondering what the difference between Bluetooth and 802.11b wireless. I tried Bluetooth on my friends ipaq and it was alright, but sort of slow - felt like about 56k modem speed. He isn´t all that tech savvy so maybe he didn´t have it set up right. Is 802 wireless faster?
Thanks in advance If anyone knows of a benchmark comparison or something else that could help me understand better - please let me know.
It looks like they both have advantages, and 802.11 is certainly more complex. When the smoke clears though, Bluetooth may be the victor just because all the major manufacturers, and OEM´s are supporting it.
I can´t remember where I saw the article I´m referring to, but the main purpose of Bluetooth - according to the article - is to eliminate wires between devices within approximately 30 ft. of each other. What´s the point of a handheld Pocket PC if you have to cradle it to print something.
Sorry I can´t add more, but I did remember the "goal" of Bluetooth which is a nice, neat and quick way to sum up its purpose.
Bluetooth is for devices w/ little data through put like printers/pda/mouse/keyboard if your going to be doing larg amouts of data like digital camera/file share/networking 802.11 is the way to go
