I thought that we could set up a post where everyone could post ideas and enhancement requests to make this great product even better.
Here we go with mine: I really like how we can use the joypad to speed up or slow down our rate, but how about a custom button mapping ability? I would love to map a hardware button for read/pause as well as forwards and backwards.
I love this program, but have run into a problem... I currently get quite a few microsoft ebooks (.lit) and am not able to "select all" from within the microsoft reader.
I think I would be a great enhancement if I were able to open .lit books directly, or somehow convert them so that I can read them within speed reader plus.
Also it would be nice if there were some way of binding the buttons to pause/play, go back/forward , I love how I can controll the speed thru the joystick.

JOY PAD ENHANCEMENT
Now you can move the joy pad (up) to pause/play and (down) to move backward sentence by sentence. If you move down then up it will repeat the last sentence.
SUPER SMART COLORBAR!
Now the colorbar can better detect the end of the sentence so abbreviations and quotations don’t confuse the colorbar. It really works very well.
FASTER SPEED
Now you should see a speed increase of at least 100 WPM and most likely more.
I am a very happy camper. Thank you for adding these features so quickly. I LOVE the pause/read control on the joypad. Now I can use the program with one hand (I know there is a perverted joke joke in there somewhere) . Anyway, many props to the developer for being so responsive and committed to improving the program.
You can get around the .lit problem by taking using screen capture on say paint Shop Pro, export the files in a batch to Jpeg format and then use a good quality OCR program to convert the Jpeg image to text. Using Omnipage Pro 11.0 from Scansoft and Paint Shop Pro I can convert a typical 300 page ebook in about an hour. The most time being spent on the proofreading in Omnipage.
NB I am not sure of the legality of this solution even for personal use, and only propose it as a solution in principle.

1.) Give a user the option of saving the properties of the reader with a particular book. In this way you can have the speed and color and other setting work for different types of books. Some books you may want to read faster than others with different setting. You may also want to save these settings so you can recall them quickly on new books or apply them to other books.
2.)Give the option to save one or more book marks manually. This way you can flag particular areas of the book you want to get back to quickly. The user should be able to see a list of books marks to which they can assign names. It would be neat if you could type in a quick note with the bookmark to remind you of why you wanted a bookmark at that spot.
This is great software! I use it almost every day. I would like to ask for a button change. The read button and the paste button are too close to eachother. I do not know how many times I have wanted to tap read and ended up tapping paste. Then, of course, it pastes an e-mail address or some correction I was making in word. I loose the doc I was reading and have to go to the library to reload it.
I love the program and will continue to use it even if this is not changed...but it would be nice if it were. Thanks
First, let me say that SRP is the best!
I love this app! I love the fact that it´s smart enough to repair the mess that happens when you de-install some VB apps from the PPC! Way to go! (MS really need to fix the VB mess!)
I´d like to request the following:
With respect to the sounds that come from SRP:
An option to turn them off, or alternatively much softer sound. The loud chirp can be somewhat disturbing in quiet locations.
I´d also like to request some sort of fixed temp file (or scratch pad file), you can paste to (rather than having to name/paste/delete a file.) The reason I ask for this is I use SRP to read from a number of ebooks daily where I copy the text & paste into SRP. I either have to use multiple temp file names or go back & delete the one I use regularly in order to paste into SRP again.
How about if you give a pasted in file the name "tmp" SRP allows you to paste over it without having to delete first?
Speed Reader Plus uses the audio volume settings set by your personal settings. The settings can easily be adjusted from your pocket pc settings screen or muted by tapping the speaker icon on your today screen or main screen.

Actually “It’s in there ” when you paste using the past button (not from the menu) the contents gets pasted to the library in the “Clipboard” file. So this does exactly what you want. You don’t need to name it or delete it. It is a temporary clipboard file.

Great app for short stories, but frustrating to use for anything longer because of the lack of bookmark support.
Who wants to page through hundreds of pages looking for the spot where they left off?
Bookmark support seems like a necessity for any ´reader´ program - am I missing something here?
there is bookmark support for SRP. However you may be encountering an error when you close it. If you are using a task manager like wisbar, or gigabar or something it could hose your bookmarks. Go to the file>exit option and all should be fine.

I know about these ways, I´d just like
to be able to still get (read that
hear) my alarms, which I only set for
important things & have SRP be quiet if
I´m reading a bunch of documents. Just
looking for an option in the prefs or
on the main screen, to have SRP sounds
muted. In my case, I´d just rather not
have the sounds at all.
<tangent>
Here´s another thought (no idea if it´s
possible)... Could SRP be tied in to
the app "Meeting Mute" such that if SRP
is running, meeting mute, mutes the
sound! That would be cool! http://www.pocketconcepts.com/

Dohhhh! <slaps forhead>
The best place to hide something... In plain site!
I guess I assumed it would behave the same way from the button as the menu.
Thanks for this tip on paste!

Rich
PS. Any chance there will be a version for the PC someday?
"there is bookmark support for SRP. However you may be encountering an error when you close it. If you are using a task manager like wisbar, or gigabar or something it could hose your bookmarks. Go to the file>exit option and all should be fine. "
I couldn´t find any menu items pertaining to a bookmark. Are you suggesting that SRP be left always running? If I open a file, do some reading, then open another file, will the bookmark from the first file be remembered? My Tosh is in for service, but I will check this stuff as soon as its back,
Remedies a problem with some task managers that don´t allow bookmarks to be saved when exiting the app. Now bookmarks are saved every 10 second. If you exit the app using a task manger the bookmark should be within a few sentences of your last read position. If you exit using File > Exit from the menu the bookmark will be placed at the beginning of the last read sentence.
2. Selectable Storage Cards
For Pocket PCs with multiple storage card slots, you can now select the card to use for the Speed Reader Plus Library.
3. Improved Library Utility
Better documentation and document formatting.
*To date I believe this addresses all feature request with the exception of reading .lit files. (Still working with Microsoft on that one)
