Known issues?

Does anyone know of any of the following issues?
Are there any fixes out there, or planned?
Should I be doing something diferent?

Issue #1:

The RUNTIME and CONTROL files appear to be Uninstalled, and I cannot run the program without a reinstall of the files.
When I reinstall the PPC displays that the files are installed.
This usually occurs after I uninstall another application.
This is not a big issue if I am near a PC (at work) and can reinstall, but if I am not near a PC I cannot use the application until I get to a PC.

Is there a way to protect these files from uninstall or overwrite?

Issue #2

For some unknown reason, the bookmark of a book I am reason would appear to be ereased.

Example: I will be reading a book and be about 1/2 way through Part 6 of 18. I close the application for awhile.
When I open the book again, I am at the beginning of Part 1.

Any help.

Thanks

The best thing to do would be to place the CAB files for the RUNTIME and CONTROLS on a storage card. That way you can quickly reinstall the required files from anywhere no desktop pc needed. The only time this needs to be done is if you uninstall someone else’s program that doesn´t install/uninstall correctly. I will place the cab files on our website (www.mobiledynamo.com) so you can copy them to a storage card and use them if needed.

When you go back to a book that you were reading before, the Library Utility will ask you if you want to start reading from the bookmark (saved) location. If you tap “No” it will start at the beginning of the story. If you tap “Yes” it will start at the place you were reading from last time you read the book. Make sure you tap “Yes” to the question and it should solve the problem.

I have checked the code and did not find any bugs.

If you tap “Yes” and it doesn’t start at the last location you were reading from, let me know and I will check into it more. I don’t think I have had anyone else mention this (over 5000 users) as a problem but lets keep an eye on it.

Thanks

Issue #1,

Yes, this is a hassle. The way I recommend you work around it is get the latest and greatest runtime files and then NEVER update them with other programs. When a program says "xxxxx runtime is already installed, do you want to update it with this one?" choose no to all and go about your merry way.

Issue 2

Make sure you go to File>exit or close to exit out of speed reader plus. If you are using a task manager, it will mess up your bookmarks.

Hope this helps,

New Version 4.2

New Features

1.Timed bookmarks

Remedies a problem with some task managers that don´t allow bookmarks to be saved when exiting the app. Now bookmarks are saved every 10 second. If you exit the app using a task manger the bookmark should be within a few sentences of your last read position. If you exit using File > Exit from the menu the bookmark will be placed at the beginning of the last read sentence.

2. Selectable Storage Cards

For Pocket PCs with multiple storage card slots, you can now select the card to use for the Speed Reader Plus Library.

3. Improved Library Utility

Better documentation and document formatting.

*To date I believe this addresses all feature request with the exception of reading .lit files. (Still working with Microsoft on that one)

Enjoy!

Incorrect Bookmark

I have had similar problems with SRP losing the bookmark. What happens to me is that SRP ALWAYS reverts to a non-existant bookmark in an already read part of the book.
What I have been able to do to work around the problem is to go to the SRLibrary and rename each of the already read files so that they again end in ~~0.txt. I don't do this to the very last one. I leave its name alone.
When opening the book again, it opens to the correct place. I always close SRP correctly. I never use the system to close the program. Again, this happens each time I go into the program without renaming the previously read files. I have a Casio E-125. I hope you can do something to help. I have previously sent messages to support at Mobile Dynamics, but haven't received a response to any of them.

Jim,
I haven't received responses to my last few mails either, makes me wonder if something is wrong as the developer is a real reliable guy.
I had to do the renaming of the file recently, but it very rarely happens to me at all. Are you running the latest version?
Let me see if I can contact him again.

I just typed and submitted a reply to your last post, but received an "invalid session" message when I clicked the Submit button. I'm posting again, in case the first one never makes it, so excuse this one if both come through.
I am using the most current version, 4.2, of Speed Reader Plus. I love it and use it daily. I have so many books waiting to put on my PPC, I have years and years of reading ahead (and that's if I don't add any more books to the list).
I didn't say earlier, but I have tried placing books on Main Memory and on the Storage Card. Both locations have the same problem. Renaming the file extensions is the only way I have been able to get to the correct bookmark. I posted this mainly to help others who might have the same problem. It is probably computer specific since it is not common with many other users.
Thanks for your help.

I tried emailing him 2 times last week to two different accounts - his home and office and he hasn't written back yet.
Hope everything's ok.

We are back! With a new version 5.0 - faster and better

The new version 5.0 is written in .NET so the RUNTIME and CONTROL files are no longer needed.
Lost bookmarks has been fixed.
Faster operation - nearly 3000 words per minute.
More reactive interface - what you see is what you get
*Note: for non-2003 devices you will need to download the Microsoft .NET Compact Framework support file. A link is on our support page on our website at www.MobileDynamo.com
