Flimsy Stylus Lock

Following the recent replacement of the stylus lock in my 3850, I have noticed that it doesn´t popout in certain circumstances.... if its on an angle... is this a flimsy lock or a security device??

<FONT face=Arial size=2>We recommend that you replace the stylus and check if
this will resolve the issue. This is assuming you have a spare stylus that you
would have received when you purchased the iPAQ. If this does not work, then the

Flimsy Stylus Lock

Ask them what holds the stylus in the hole... They may call it a catch... a grippy thing or something completely different, to me it&acute;s a lock

Flimsy Stylus Lock

I&acute;m told it is held in there just by the friction of the stylus against the silo.

I don&acute;t know if this helps any, but here is a picture of a stylus lock outside it&acute;s natural environment:

http://www.pocketpctechs.com sell these thingies and they have a good rep for all sorts of repairs and upgrades.

Flimsy Stylus Lock

The 38xx series iPaq does not have the "conventional" stylus lock as with the 36xx series iPaqs which is sold in various forms (aluminum, plastic, titanium). The 38xx series has the stylus lock mechanism along with the spring built into the rear bezel plastics near the bottom corner. It works the same way (through an interference fit) though. I suspect that as they age, the 38xx series stylus locks will wear just like the others.
You can replace the rear housing on your 38xx iPaq for $25.00 through http://www.ipaqrepair.com/ipaqpartscenter.html
