Midsize mobile phone makers in Korea are now targeting both GSM and CDMA markets to jack up their export volume as part of their diversification strategies, industry sources said yesterday.Telson Electronics, Giga Telecom, and Maxon Telecom have so far focused on either GSM or CDMA, but the trend is fast changing in favor of servicing both types of mobile phone markets.Korea is one of the most advanced CDMA service markets. CDMA, or code division multiple access, technology was developed by U.S.-based Qualcomm Inc., and three carriers in Korea - SK Telecom, KTF and LG Telecom - are offering cdma2000 1x services to more than 33 million subscribers.
