Lucent Technologies announced a major agreement to enhance and upgrade the largest high-speed wireless network in the United States with additional third-generation (3G) mobile equipment from Lucent. The two companies signed a new, multi-year contract valued at up to $1 billion, covering major markets across the United States from New York to California.Lucent will provide Sprint with the Flexent(R) CDMA Modular Cell 4.0 and other advanced base stations, switching equipment, related software and advanced services. When added to the network, these solutions are expected to provide Sprint with improved performance and increased reliability throughout its network, leading to an improvement in overall network quality for millions of Sprint customers.
