Handango Launches Over-The-Air Software Downloading

Handango is taking wireless seriously by offering a new store for wireless users that allows you to buy and download software directly to your pocketpc. First impression is that it looks pretty good to me. I poked around there, downloaded some trialware and it worked very well. What do you think?

Check out the link here...it's a pretty cool little store for your PocketPC PocketPC Mobile Store

"Previously, adding software to a PDA required users to connect to a PC. Now, Pocket PC 2002 and Pocket PC 2002 Phone Edition users can wirelessly purchase, download and use handheld software without being tethered to their desktop."Handango Launches Over-The-Air Software Provisioning
Market Leader Delivers First-Of-Its-Kind, Turnkey Service for Carriers And Handset Manufacturers Utilizing Pocket PC 2002 and Pocket PC 2002 Phone Edition
HURST, Texas, March 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Handango, the world's leading publisher of handheld and wireless software, today launched a first-of-its- kind over-the-air software provisioning service for mobile users at http://mobile.handango.com/ppc and as part of Microsoft's Pocket PC Software Store at http://mobile.handango.com/ms . Previously, adding software to a PDA required users to connect to a PC. Now, Pocket PC 2002 and Pocket PC 2002 Phone Edition users can wirelessly purchase, download and use handheld software without being tethered to their desktop.

The Handango-powered Software Stores enabled with Handango Over-the-Air Technology contain hundreds of Pocket PC applications. Each application has been certified as ``Handango Mobile Ready'' and is chosen from Handango's catalog of over 17,000 mobile software applications created by Handango's network of more than 6,000 ISV Partners. Users can access maps, play games or activate productivity software from anywhere at anytime. The sites are built on Handango's proven infrastructure, which supports more than two million users each month.

Handango Over-the-Air Technology delivers unique benefits to carriers and handset manufacturers. By delivering hundreds of value-added applications and driving network usage, carriers and handset manufacturers can grow average revenue per user, increase customer loyalty and differentiate their product offerings.

``Pocket PC 2002 Phone Edition brings together the best of the PDA with integrated wireless voice and data capabilities in preparation for a wireless future,'' said Scott Gode, director of the Mobility Group at Microsoft Corp. ``Handango is leading the pack by recognizing the distinct advantages of that future and is capitalizing on it with the introduction of their over-the-air software delivery Web site.''

Gartner Dataquest estimates that the number of Pocket PC users will soar to more than 15 million by 2004. Key drivers of Pocket PC 2002 Phone Edition adoption will be value-added services such as wireless email, mobile Internet and mobile software applications that make use of its memory, powerful processors and larger screens.

``Handango Over-the-Air Technology delivers on the promise of wireless data for our partners today,'' said Laura Rippy, chief executive officer of Handango. ``With more applications and a proven platform, Handango is leading the market in providing a turnkey solution for wireless carriers, OEMs and handset manufacturers.''

The Handango-powered Software Stores are the first of their kind on the Web and are currently accessible from any PDA running the Pocket PC 2002 or Pocket PC 2002 Phone Edition platform. A ``My Account'' feature stores a secure repository of past software purchases for easy application recovery. The sites also feature a search engine, best sellers lists, personalization features and technology to facilitate secure mobile commerce and provisioning to mobile devices.
