"Marking its biggest step into the wireless communications market to date, Google Inc. said Friday it has proposed to provide free wireless Internet services across the city of San Francisco.
The Web search company said it has responded to a request for information by the City of San Francisco to test local Internet services via Wi-Fi, the short-range wireless technology built into most new laptop computers.
"Google has submitted a proposal to offer free, wireless Internet access (Wi-Fi) to the entire city of San Francisco," Google said in a statement." via eWeek
Most people wouldn't oppose free Wi-Fi service, but some of the talk on the streets is concen for privacy. Do you think Google would honor privacy or use it for targeted advertising?

I don't see this as an issue as long as Google are honest and upfront about what and how they monitor the connection. This seems like the same debate that came with GMail, and a number of people (including me) signed up for these? If you want secure go private.
I think a bigger impact will be on companies currently providing intranet services both for home and business. Won't be sorry to see all those Coffee Shops and Pubs that sell overpriced connections go bust.
