On Tuesday September 15th, 2005, Microsoft announced a new feature for upcoming Windows Vista (formerly Windows Longhorn) called the “Digital Locker”. This new Digital Locker system will provide Windows users an easier process for purchasing and downloading software.
Lincoln, Nebraska based eSellerate (http://www.esellerate.net)is providing the custom web-service based interface for the Digital Locker system’s transaction processing, digital goods delivery, payment remittance and developer content submission. eSellerate has been providing software commerce solutions to software developers since 1987.
According to eSellerate “the Digital Locker is an ad-ware and virus-ware free service that provides complete control over personal information and the ability to track purchase history and software license details. For independent software vendors (ISVs) building applications for the Windows platform, it offers a cost effective way to promote and distribute their products to the largest group of relevant customers… The strategic relationship between Microsoft and eSellerate allows both parties to work together to deliver consumers great products while providing a superior user experience.”
The new Digital Locker system can be previewed at the Microsoft Windows Marketplace Labs website at http://www.windowsmarketplacelabs.com/.
