OUCH! Looks like this backfired on them in a bad way. "Them" being Microsoft. I think it may have worked exactly as iMate, the HTC manufacturer, wanted it to work.
Apparently they announced the $149 price tag for attendees AT THE KEYNOTE. This is a $1,000 device. So there was a stampede. Old people were trampled, and little babies who were in the way were punted. This is like the high tech version of the $50 iBook stampede in Virginia last month.
Nevertheless, they sold out BEFORE the keynote was over. Masterful plan if you are iMate, but it probably will be a bad thing for Microsoft and the PDC.
