Memory card crashes to sea; Lives to tell it's tales

If I were to guess, I'd bet many/most readers of this site have some sort of expansion memory card(s) for their Pocket PC. Memory cards are pretty well known for being stable. In fact, we discussed one time where a compact flash card had been "blown up" while in a digital camera too close to an explosion, yet the card itself could be used to reveal the photos. News.com has a similar story of how some students took a weather ballon with a camera attached to measure atmospheric disturbances. The balloon plummeted to the sea, drowning everything including the camera and card. As you can see, it did live to reveal it's stories.
A high-flying, student-assembled research balloon that appeared doomed after crashing into the Pacific Ocean has ended up yielding valuable astronomical data, thanks to hardy memory cards that survived the plunge.
As a result, astronomers now have information that will help them focus more clearly on galaxies, planets, stars, comets and other objects in space. And the California engineering students who first set the balloon afloat have been awarded special university honors for their efforts--and seen how a seemingly sunken venture can end up an unexpected treasure trove.

Do you have any Memory card horror stories to tell? Let us know about them!
