Bloodbath at IBM - 13,000 Fired

I hope this doesn't affect any Pocket PC Addict friends but in an effort to move toward more globally-integrated operations and improve efficiency, IBM is laying off approximately 13,000 employees
"Because speed and responsiveness are critical to gaining ground in meeting clients' needs, he said, IBM will invest more in client-facing teams operating from "centers of excellence" located worldwide. At the same time, the company is realigning its management structure by reducing the corporate hierarchy.
"In reducing the staff, we will have a leader business model. We are also shifting more investment to high-growth areas," Loughridge said. Most of the job cuts, both voluntary and involuntary, will be made in the UK, Italy and France, although some U.S. positions will be eliminated as well."

Do you work at Big Blue? If so, what does this change mean to you?
