T-Mobile Announces the MDA IV

Interesting change for the MDA device, T-Mobile Deutschland just announced the MDA IV, billed as a new, multi-function communication terminal. In fact, they are calling it the "mini laptop" claiming it is almost as powerful as a desktop PC. What do you think of that screen swivel?
"MDA IV is the first mobile communications device based on the Windows Mobile operating system to integrate WLAN, GPRS and UMTS technology
Additional highlights: E-Mail Push-Service, Bluetooth, full keyboard, two cameras, video telephony and Windows Mobile platform
High-resolution VGA screen for optimum display of Internet pages and image files
The mobile office of the future fits in your hand: Around 100 square centimeters large, T-Mobile’s new MDA IV with Microsoft Windows software has everything it takes to make working on the move convenient. This "mini-laptop" is the first mobile communications device in the world to integrate the mobile communications technologies GPRS, UMTS and WLAN and means that T-Mobile customers have access to fast, broadband data communication practically all the time and everywhere, for sending e-mails, for example, or downloading large files, for Internet research or for accessing the company intranet. The MDA IV is a triband terminal, operating on GSM 900, 1800, and 1900 megahertz networks, meaning that T-Mobile customers can use it all over the world. SMS, MMS and e-mails can be typed in using the full keyboard and the VGA screen is the ideal display for text, images, and Internet pages. This format takes the quality of "Internet in your pocket" to a new level. Additional functional highlights include two integrated cameras, loudspeakers and the Windows Mobile operating system. Once open, the VGA screen can be turned round in a single move to turn the mini-laptop into a PDA with a touchscreen. The MDA IV is scheduled to be available from this summer. "

Ugly?

Will Rogers once said "She was so ugly she could make a mule back away from an oat bin."
Is it just me (could be effect of bad day) or is technology taking a turn for the ugly? Did someone think I always liked the 60s plastic look, and why don't we do something truly dull with the design and make it look like a mobile phone. And why the swival? just incase you can't get RSI sitting at the unit properly and need to be at an akward angle or just so you can get cramp from holding something really unergonomic in PDA mode?
This new Cheap n Nasty Chic seems especially true of the newer IPAQs and any combination phone/PDA. HP iPAQ hx2750, iPAQ Mobile Messenger, Hitachi Pocket PC Flora-MX1. And the IPOD wanabe I really hate the IPODs
I know techies aren't the most design blessed people (I sit here in blue jeans and dark grey shirt ), but surely it's not that hard. You take 1 person who asks users "What do you want in a phone/PDA?" you then say to 1 incredibly talented team I want XXX as small and light as you can, and finally you give it to someone who understands why blue jeans and dark grey shirt don't work (btw: I was told this, I don't know why it's wrong - is it because the jeans are faded?)

Sorry

I apologise for the above rant, it's probably unfair to have a go from pictures, I'll wait to see the thing before kicking off again. At least they are trying to be innovative - yes okay I actually think it's just a larger rehash of a Nokia flip phone but I'm trying to be being nice.

Welcome to 1985 man! You know that's when everything started being plastic. Where have you been?
I think the swivel is a little much and yes, it looks just like every other piece coming out.
Big Surprise!!! Maybe you can get Xzibit to pimp your ride if you buy one Benji.
