I always enjoy reading a story about how Pocket PCs can be used to help people with hearing or sight problems lead a better life. I caught just such a story over at Geekzone this morning. The Gershwin theater is now employing a new Pocket PC enabled application called I-Caption to help the hard of hearing to enjoy the live theater performance of Wicked.
"So much is happening onstage during Wicked that understanding dialogue and song lyrics is crucial to fully enjoying this show," said T. Richard Fitzgerald, theatrical sound designer and CEO of Sound Associates, Inc. "I-Caption provides a seamless transcription so deaf theatre patrons can follow onstage dialogue and song lyrics conveniently and unobtrusively,"
Heck I can hear pretty well, but having the songs scrolling in front of me would be nice too. My wife and I went to see Phantom of the Opera on Broadway and the sound was goofed up or something, you couldn't really understand it due to the ambient noise that evening. We were right at the orchestra so we heard them fine..just couldn't hear the voices singing all that well. I still don't know what that musical is about.
P.S. she keeps bugging me to go see the movie...I don't want to go because I "didn't get" the theater production of it.

We never go to enjoy ourselves - wives enjoy looking over and seeing us in pain - and knowing they caused it
