Wormhole Creations: Reviews the ASUS A730W

There is nothing like reading a review that whets your appetite for a gadget you would like to have. The same is true about Wormhole Creations review of the ASUS A730W model. They pointed out some of the tweaks and enhancements that ASUS has put foreword in this model. For instance, I did not realize it comes with an extra battery! They have also included special utilities for audio and video adjustments. But that's not all....
'The A730W is the first of the ASUS Pocket PC's to be released with Windows Mobile SE operating system. The A730W also boasts a VGA screen (which is a pleasure to use) and a 1.3 mega pixel digital camera built into the back of the device. I should also add that the A730W also features a mini flash built into the back of the unit - which can be either set manually or automatically for use with the camera.
With the release of the A730W, ASUS give a clear message that they are not only a serious player in the Pocket PC market, but they are one of the innovators and are here for long term investment.'

So what do you think? Any comments about this device?

Hi,
I have it (since Jan. 5) and love it. Can't stop wasting my time playing with it.
Pluses: Gorgeous screen, nice and bright and sharp. Good amount of memory, (and I'm using a 1GB CF card too) loaded with just about every feature you can think of, POP3 email worked fine with the Wi-Fi. Colors are great and movies and pictures look phenominal! Good cradle (except as noted below) and syncing works great.
Mediums: Not as quick as my old B&W palm, and occasionaly crashes (which might be software related) at least once or twice a day. Palm never did that. The plastic rear cover flexes a bit on the sides and feels cheap. Hard to remove without turning on the unit - nowhere to grab where there is not a button.
Cons: Forget the camera for either video or stills unless you come across Susquatch and it's all you have handy. Doesn't play nice with lots of popular software such especially all the OmegaOne apps like Battery Pro and Journal. Would have liked a hard cover to protect the screen and frankly, the little side loading "purse" case with a wrist strap is a bit too unique for me. (And has no place to store that extra battery.) Oh yeah, biggest issue, battery life is lousy. Two hours of use to death and the charging cradle has no place to charge the extra battery. A real nuisance that muchly negates the value of the second battery.
Overall, though, I love it and would buy it again in a second.
Nigel
