ExtremeTech has an article reporting that New York University researchers have found evidence that use of notebook computers by men can impair fertility. In other words, like the cell phone tumor research that has been conducted over the past 15 years or so, we are going to be hearing horror stories about laptops and the effects on the ability to reproduce.
In other news, Best Buy stores across the nation are reporting that male fraternities have purchased the entire inventory of their laptop computers.(Kidding!) "Researchers at the State University of New York at Stony Brook showed that prolonged laptop use heated men's testicles on the order of 5 degrees Fahrenheit, above the 1.8-5.2 degree range found to impair the production of male sperm.
The test sample was relatively small -- 29 people, according to reports -- and the test subjects used an undisclosed Pentium 4-based laptop for an entire hour. "
Any comments?
I've got news, one of the things I just realized is another argument against Compaq computers (In my experience, they're prone to many problems) But what else is the hard drive (one of the things in a laptop that causes the most heat) is right in the front middle of the laptop. Were you to have it on your lap, it would be directly on top of your *ahem*
I've not noticed any other laptops, mine is on the back right side, so it hasn't bothered me any. The oinly problem with that, is sometimes after long periods of use my thigh is about medium rare.

whether the laptop impairs fertility or not -- that really sounds painful!
