You may have heard of the Windows Mobile 2003 SE iPaq Petition that was posted here back in July. It is an effort by iPAQ owners who bought into the HP line of Pocket PCs to get the Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition upgrades. Well, good news for the underdog! We find out via brighthand that they just passed their 10,000th signature
No word yet on whether HP will reverse their decision NOT to offer upgrades to iPAQ H19xx, H22xx, H38xx, H39xx, H41xx, H5xxx series users yet or not. But I think the petition makes a good point. HP was actively marketing many of these devices when WM 2003 2nd edtion was announced. "HP isn't the only company that has decided to forgo releasing Windows Mobile SE upgrades. There will also be no upgrades for Axim X5 or Axim X3 models from Dell.
Many Axim users are doing their part to make sure Dell is aware that there is demand for an update. An online petition has been going for several months and, so far, over 3,000 people have signed it."
The fact that HP isn't the only hardware vendor not offering an SE upgrade, leads me to believe that it may have something to do with licensing fees for the SE to MS.
Are there any companies providing SE upgrades? If so, are they free?
