HP to phase out sleeve compatibility

Addic writes: This new item was just picked up over on the Brighthand. It goes on to say "Brighthand has been leaked HP's handheld plans for the rest of the year". Although these plans are not particularly specific they do confirm many Ipaq users suspicions about the demise of the 'Sleeve' systems.
The article also hints at a number of forthcoming new devices from Ipaq, although details are vague.
As stated on Brighthand: "HP believes these peripherals are no longer necessary. Many of the functions they offered are now built into the handhelds, or are available as CompactFlash or SDIO cards. Also, sleeves were created at a time when the iPAQs were much larger than they are today. Relatively few customers want a handheld as large as the h5550 when they can get the almost same functionality in a handheld as svelte as the h4150". Read more...
Will any of you Addicts miss the lose of a sleeve? or do you think this move is over due?

I think the sleeves were a great idea in the PPC world...that was the main reason I picked up a 3835 a couple of years ago...but like most great products, I think it has run it's course...So I sold my 3835 and now I'm into the VGA devices...
Thanks for the memories iPaq Sleeves.

I will need a device with a CF card to replace my sleeve - I use it only for Sprint PCS Vision card now, but I used to use it for CF Memory and GPS with my first IPAQ, now I have a 3950 and use SD memory and wireless.

Hurph tell me about it, I've got a Silverslider with CF slot and extended battery. But know I'm gonna have to try and trade that in/sell it along with my Ipaq 3970 so's I can buy a VGA machine.
I don't reckon that will be easy .

This move is long overdue. But I think it shows the type of support that HP provides to its customers. Had HP extended the functionality of the sleeve by providing some kind of expansion pak like the one available for the Toshiba E740/750/755, then I could see extending support for it.
