Can i put a 4gig memory card in my 8525 or is it limited to just 2gig.
Also does the speed of the memory have any importance? Is there a brand that is more compatible with the 8525 than others.
I got an 8525 this week. When I was researching it, I believe I saw where it was limited to accessing 2 gigs; however, in some forum someone mentioned partitioning a 4 gig microSD card into two 2 gig sections. I looked in my bookmarks, but I didn't save the link. sorry.
i have the same question cuz iwant to get a microSD card but if i could get a 4 gigger thatd be sweet. im bad at finding out answers so maybe one of you tech savvy people can find this out. if its 4 thatd be huuuuuuuuuuuuuuge. oh and dont buy it from cingular...cingular sells a 2 gig for 100 and 1 gig for 50...while on ebay you can get a 2 gig for like 40 total (inc ship) and pretty cheap for a 1 gig.
I bought my 2 GB microSD card from Newegg.com - Buy Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, Digital Cameras and more! and got a really good price. I just searched their web site and the references to a 4 GB SD card is NOT a microSD. That is not to say that a 4 GB doesn't exist, but just a warning to make sure you buy the right format. The 8525 uses a MicroSD card (as you all probably already know.)
One more thing, Sandisk announced in February that they were going to manufacture a 4 GB microsd card. It is apparently not on sale yet. Here is the link to the Sandisk website where it is discussed. SanDisk | Products | Memory Cards | microSD Cards
From posts that I've read the 8525 is limited to 2 gigs max. Partioning a 4 gig card into 2 2 gig sectors will not work. I ran into a similar problem several years ago with my Dell Axim 5. The SD slot was limited to 1 gig. I partioned a 2 gig card into 2 1 gig sectors but only 950 megs were readable. Then I tried to load 2 gigs of data from my PC to see if that would work. No joy, I got a bad sector error message. The device may recognize that there are 4 gigs of space on the card but bottom line is that it will only recognize 2 gigs.
