I need instructions on how to take apart my 8125 so i could replace the lcd screen. i unscrewed the 2 screws but it still won't open. What else do i have to do? please help!!
I just got this phone for about a week and accidently cracked the lcd screen. Cingular doesnt offer insurance on this phone and they dont do repairs which sucks! Technician are charging $200 to fix it. For a $100, I could do it myself. I just need to figure out how to take it apart without further damage.
There are additional screws that need to be taken out. You have to pop off the housing on the top that covers the camera and the antenna port. there will be at least 2 more screws there. Then you will carefully have to pop off the back starting at the bottom by where the stylus is and pull that off. There is probably going to be another screw holding the board in place. It has been a few months since i have done this. Then the board comes out and you have 4 more screws these are phillips heads. That will take the back housing off of the front. Then 4 more screws to take the back plat off of the front housing.
Here a link to an awesome manual I found that may help all people who need to know how to disassemble one of these babies. The unit I worked on was a Cingular 8125. I needed to replace the LCD on it for a friend and thought the manual was so useful that I registered here just so I could share it with other poor souls that were as desperate as I was.
The manual can be downloaded or viewed online. It's a .PDF file. It's not exactly perfect, but so close that I was able to get the job done. A couple things to note or that were left out of the manual's step-by-step disassembly process.
1. When it says to remove the battery, you also need to remove the simm card. If you don't the unit will not come apart. The simm card will hold it together.
2. The picture in the middle of page 15 showing how to seperate the back cover is not correct for the one I worked on. The tool you use will need to be inserted along the edge between the top and bottom covers, not where they show it. This will be obvious when you try it because the tool won't go where they say it will if you have one like mine. Once the tool is inserted properly, the back cover comes off the same way they show it.
NOTE: The manual shows a flat plastic tool similar to a plastic butter knife that they recommend using to seperate the case halves of the phone to get inside. Whatever you decide to use, make sure it's thin, flat and doesn't flex too much. I used a pocket knife blade and was super careful. BE VERY CAREFUL YOU DON'T PUST THE TOOL TOO DEEP INTO THE PHONE WHILE TRYING TO SEPERATE THE PHONES UPPER AND LOWER CASES. If you do and it goes too far into the inside of the phone, you may damage something inside. Just take your time and go easy. You'll be fine.
you know if your not comfortable fixing it i can fix it for far less than $200 and i can guarantee it. not trying to solicit you or any others but i do repairs on 8125s and 8525s

Thank Nate for the great job you did on my 8125. The screen is flawless and the software you installed is useful and fun. After the months that it has been since you did the work I am still finding new things to play with and use.
