I'm fairly new to the Pocket PC arena and have a couple of questions. I was able to get an Audiovox (UTStarcom) PPC-6700 device from someone that was switching away from Sprint to Cingular.
I had been using it for a few weeks and the OS just started to freeze. In the middle of a call, or just some other random time. It would seem to work fine for a bit, then I'd grab it to make a call or something and notice it was locked off in the power. Couldn't get it to power-up except to do a soft-boot on it.
I took it to a Sprint store and they said they couldn't help me out since I purchased it from a 3rd party and even then "the manufacturer doesn't want us to try and troubleshoot" them. I was then directed to www.utstar.com to check and see about a possible upgrade/patch. There was one, I installed it per the directions and now it's completely dead.
Does anyone have any ideas? I've already become greatly attached to the functionality of having my phone and PDA combined. I hate to go back to separate devices again. Has anyone experienced this before? What's the solution?
Welcome to Pocket PC Addict bnpositive! I'm sorry to hear that you are having problems with your "new to you" PPC-6700. I'm glad that you are still "bnpositive" after the bad update.
Being a victim of bad updates myself, I'd recommend checking to see if you can at least charge the unit. Also, see if you can't get it to flash again, sometimes even if it looks dead, it may not be fully dead. Last but not least, if all else fails, I'd recommending calling UTStarcom (1-800-229-1235) and telling them what happened. Is it still under warranty? If so they should be able to replace it since it wasn't your fault.
Good luck, hope you can still be postive after all this!
When you say dead, do you mean it won't even boot? Have you attempted a "hard reset"?
I, too, recently upgraded my PPC-6700; however, I used the ROM update from the Sprint website... the upgrade took two attempts, but was eventually successful...
Try holding down the record button and the power button at the same time. This should bring up a screen that says 'serial' and it will hang. Plug in the USB cable, and you should be able to load the new ROM image you got from Sprint.
