Toshiba 1 day service

Sent my e805 in for digitizer repair on Monday afternoon and received it back this morning. That means they received it, fixed it, and shipped it out the next day.
Kudos Toshiba!!!

That is awesome. I'll never forget the time when I had an ipaq 3635 and sent it in for warranty service when the new 3975s were out. It took Compaq 1 month to get it back to me :? I kept thinking "They just want me to give up and buy one of their new models"
One day turnaround is great!
P.S. Since then, I've gotten 1 day turnaround with HP.

First of all gently lift up the right side of the black plastic top piece and make sure there's no white plastic strip sticking down. It pushes down on the digitizer and makes it unresponsive. I always pushed mine back up with my fingernail but others use a credit card. It's worth trying even if you can't see the white plastic if your unit is dead. That always fixed it temporarily for me.
The link for the support bulletin is:
Toshiba digitizer support bulletin
Good luck.

GREAT! On my device once this started it kept recurring. This fix worked every time but since the Toshiba repair was free and fast I sent it in anyway. You should do the same as the repair has ended all digitizer weirdness.
If you regularly put your e805 onto the cradle by pushing on the top right side you will do yourself a world of hurt. Always push on the left and you'll minimize the recurrences.
I'm so glad you're working again! I remember how I felt the first time mine was apparently dead.

This 'white tab futzing with the digitizer' story has been making the rounds of the PPC boards for awhile. I have been worrying about what to do when/if this happens to my device.
Toshiba is not going to provide service to me while I'm living out of the country. What can I do to get the machine repaired if it does break down? Is there any other way to do this outside of shipping it off to a family member and then having them ship it back to me?? (We're talking $60 US for insured shipping... each way... plus customs duties when it reenters the country because it will be coming in from a private citizen.)
If I offer to pay for the shipping will Toshiba honor the warranty?
Any ideas?

BK's story has really got me worried about this now.
The e800 was never offered for sale here, only the e400. And I'm sure I'll run into the same problems I had with IBM Japan when I bought one of their laptops... I couldn't even get documentation from IBM US because the companies are considered seperate entities. (Although they do R&D and marketing together.)
No, the Toshiba home office won't even look at me. But maybe their attitude will change after wm2003se is released. They should be releasing an e8xx version for Japan at that time. Maybe they'd consent to do some hardware fixing.

Totally free. Just be sure and take everything out of the device before sending it. Battery, memory cards, stylus, everything. It won't come back with it.

That was simple.....They told me to keep the battery in the device....also was your screen working before you sent it back...I wondering if they are going to look at my device and say "Hmmmm.. nothing wrong with it..." and send it back...

My screen was working fine. In fact, the piece had been pushed back and there were no problems at all when I sent it in. That's weird about the battery- they told me 3 times to remove it.

Just sent my e750 in today (gray screen of nothingness). I asked why sometimes they ask for the batteries and sometimes they don't. The tech guy said it depended on if they thought they needed the battery or not to test the system.
I'm hoping for the three day service, I'll let you know. Does anyone know if they zap the ROM? (I haven't backed up my cryptocard stuff and I would hate to find and retype it all.)

The screen stopped responding....but it was a known problem and they sent me a box to ship to them and it's supposed to be back by the end of the week.

There's several long threads on Tools about this. You either love it or hate it. I upgraded yesterday but 5 or 6 core apps don't work well (or at all) in SE.
The killers for me- TextMaker looks like c**p, PlanMaker looks just as bad, Netfront looks worse than that, TimeTTracker won't even run. Spb Imageer doesn't work at all- locks up the device, Pocket Plus displays horribly on the Today screen. PIToday also looks terrible on the Today screen.
Most Today plugins are double pixelling up to VGA and consequently look really bad.
There is a thread on Brighthand however where an enterprising user has figured out a way to hack the EXE for Netfront and others to tell SE it's a HiDPI device. He's posted some screen shots that look pretty good. I'm on the fence about this- technically I think even hacking the EXE is probably illegal but I'm no expert about this. For personal use it might be OK.
The best scenario is these companies get SE and VGA aware versions of their s/w out ASAP. The apps that work well- PI once you manually fix it as per WebIS's instructions, look really nice. However, I'm still not convinced that web browsing is ever going to be as nice as it is now in native VGA with NF. The new PIE fails miserably in VGA, in fact it looks like it's sized for QVGA even though the OS is supposed to be VGA aware. Pages look really nice in PIE but they are QVGA size.
There is a downgrade path detailed on our site for going back if you don't like it. I've done it and it only took me 10 mins. to reflash the ROM with the old OS, and restore from Sprite backup. I'm exactly where I was before I started.

I think I'll keep reading the forums about the different issues...but I don't really see a need to upgrade right now....I mostly use Pocket Informant, Netfront, Textmaker, Inbox and ICQ......I may, at some point..install it just for the heck of it....but not today....I got "my precious" back...

Is it rebuilt yet? BTW, Palm Reader Pro (or eReader Pro if you prefer) looked so bad I couldn't even bear to read ebooks under SE.
