You must backup your storage card files too, eh? My biggest backup file compresses to about 30 mb and restored in exactly 4 minutes yesterday. This from a self restoring EXE file from Sprite backup.

No, just a normal backup of the device...except I use ActiveSync for backup and restores....I think that's the difference... oops....just finished the restore...Yay!

Activesync won't let me set up a partnership. It says a partnership already contains this device name... Ughhh...I've unistalled activesync 3 times and reinstalled...I want to use the same device name...Any ideas?

open Activesync without connecting the PPC. In the File menu select the mobile device you want to use. Once it's selected say delete partnership. If you're syncing files when it asks if you want to delete synchronized files say no.
That's it. When you cradle now it will set up a new partnership- just make sure it uses the name you want.

That's bizarre. You should have at least one device name in there. Well, no problem. Go to SETTINGS/ SYSTEM/ ABOUT and on the DEVICE ID tab you can change the device name to anything you want. This should be no problem if you haven't synced yet anyway. If you restore it from a backup with another device name after changing it will be altered again.
BTW, did you sync once before restoring your device or only after?

This is the BIZARRE thing....I did have a different name....Then I restored using a a backup which set my device to the old name...Everything is fine on my Toshiba...but it won't let me sync using that device name from my backup..

Go back in on the desktop and delete the partnership again, making sure the current device name matches the one in the backup.

K...I'm back.....Had to actually work for an hour and a half.. I am going in as a guest and I'm going to do another restore...Making sure that the device name is the same as the restore....
I can't go in on the desktop and delete the partnership...Activesync, does not have any partnerships available to delete...

bk, have you gotten anywhere with your AS problem?

I am trying a restore for the umpteenth time. This is freaking me out! It says there are no partnerships on the desktop and yet I can't name my device "Toshiba" because it thinks there is a parnership for a device named "Toshiba" ... Now after the restore it tells me it could not load a language file for Resco keyboard and it freezes up.
BTW....the screen work done by Toshiba is excellent....There used to be a small gap at the top of the screen and the case...Now it's buttoned down pretty tight..

Now I've got it restored and I had to use a different device name....and now I'm finding out that the Flash ROM Disk is empty...which is where I installed my most important applications....I think I'm going to have to hard reset and start from scratch.....ughhhhh...I know what I'll be doing for the rest of the night...

Okay...here's what I did so far....I went on my desktop into \Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Microsoft\ActiveSync\Profiles\ and renamed the "Toshiba" file to "Toshiba_bak" then I was able to connect to ActiveSync and create the partnership as my old device name..... Now I'm going to try to do a restore from the backup and hopefully the Flash ROM disk will be restored.

So BK did your flash mem restore?
I had a similar issue when I sent my Ipaq 3970 to Hp (but the hardware buttons playing too many games).
They flashed the rom and I lost all my data.
Spent all weekend reloading it and building the syncs back up .

Hey, my sympthies go out to you.
At least your machine will be all nice and sparkly
Do you think there is anyway that could have been done to advert this (hopefully it's not too painful or soon to relive :?)

Seriously, it doesn't back up your ROM? If that's the case, then I've been wasting my time.....The ROM probably went caput because the battery was removed for a couple of days...

I feel for you dude. One thing I've come to appreciate with the 128 MB of memory on the e800 is the ability to install ALL programs to regular memory. Sprite backup then backs up my entire system for restore just like you like it. I have over 60 mb of programs installed and still have more memory left over to run programs than on my entire e755 device with nothing! It doesn't really do you any good to have 60 mb of system RAM free over say 40 or 50 mb. I only use the Flash ROM to put all the CAB files for the important programs in the event I have to rebuild "on the fly". I can't backup to the Flash as my backup file compressed is about 40 mb.

I'm pretty much finished installing for the night.. I have all the most important apps on there...tomorrow I'll tackle all the games I have.. I learned an important lesson....I backup regularly but now I know the backup doesn't backup the ROM...
Oh well, something good came of it.

I rebuild my Toshiba so much that I have a special "Toshiba Rebuild" folder that contains only the programs and CABs for a rebuild. I can rebuild from a hard reset in about 30 mins flat and most of that is typing in the d**n registration codes for each program.
