Jenneth reviews Destinator GPS and gives a thumbs down

Jenneth has reviewed the Pharos GPS and Destinator software and given it a BIG thumbs down. I have recieved my GPS unit from iGolftech and Mapopolis software but I haven't tried the it yet because I was on my deathbed all weekend.....I'll be trying it sometime this week and I'll let you know how it works out.
Sadly, I'm not as impressed with it as I used to be. The following are some of its flaws that I've picked up while using it to drive around and navigate.
The biggest flaw is it takes so damn long to reroute. If I miss a turn, it'll take up to 30 seconds for it to reroute, which is an awful long time while you're driving. So what'll happen is I'll miss the turn, and then keep on driving in whatever direction until the darn program catches up with me and presents a new set of directions. In the meantime, I'm just driving (most likely in the wrong direction) and end where I shouldn't be... like facing the Sydney Opera House or in North Sydney (which really did happen last night).
Another serious shortcoming is that the program doesn't automatically adjust the program/storage memory allocation as it should. When Destinator is creating a route, it needs a hell of a lot of program memory. If it doesn't have that program memory already, it won't adjust the allocation - it'll just bring up a memory error, and you don't have any choice but to exit the program. What I've had to do before starting Destinator every time is manually adjust the memory allocation so that it's mainly program memory and just a bit of storage memory.

A confusing review since Pharos uses its own software called Ostia and maps by Tele Atlas. I have used it for years and never heard of Navigator. They have a brand new release of the software with new maps. The re-routing is ok, not great but not 30 seconds - not close and I normally have 4 maps + open at a time linving in So Cal and traveling across counties.

Should have said Destinator software not Navigator and doing some checking I find that it is not associated with Pharos, so she is using a mismatched system. I would suggest she try the software that comes with her GPS device.

Keith, it's probably to do with her being in Australia (if my memory is correct) and perhaps there are few Australian maps available. Just guessing.

Actually, since I got the navigation system I haven't left my bed. I've been terribly sick..I was in the hospital having XRays and everything...so for the past 3 - 4 days I've been in and out of consciousness on codeine syrup.. (love that codeine).....but the good news is...I'm feeling a hundred times better (just labored breathing right now) and they haven't been able to tell what was wrong.. (B-Rad believes it was allergy attack, I kind of agree with him...since it came on all of the sudden when I was working in my new garden. )
But I plan on trying out Mapopolis and the new GPS unit this week...still waiting for my Arkon PDA Holder w/speaker from Mobile Planet.

bk,
Sorry to hear about your plight! Does sound like a severe allergic reaction to something though. Maybe to manual labor?
Glad to hear you're feeling better and are through with the poking and prodding. Unless you like that sort of thing.
Welcome back!

bk, hope you realize I wasn't being flippant above ^^^. I'm sure you were understandably concerned and I wasn't making light of that. As one who underwent a triple bypass at the ripe old age of 45 I understand serious illness.
Really am glad you are better.

No way man! Like I told B-Rad at one point....I am UNINSULTABLE! (Is that a word? )
And I think it might have been an allergic reaction to that 4 letter word "W&^%".....I can't even say it....give me the willies!
