Ok. I've tried for hours here. Here's what I have:
iPaq 4155
BLITZZ NetWave Point PCI 11Mbps wireless PC card
Ethernet connection from a broadband modem-->wired router-->to my PC (via Ethernet cable)
ActiveSync 3.7.1
Here's the problem:
I have the PCI card installed (however, NO wireless router as of yet...only the PCI card...just wanted to sync my PPC to my PC). I have WiFi running on my iPaq, and I can open PIE and browse the web.
When I check my connections, the linksys router was automatically chosen/enabled without any input from me.
Now, here's the issue. Even though I can "pass through" my PC to the internet, I can't sync via ActiveSync. What settings am I missing? I've tried several tutorials that deal a lot with VPN's, addresses and so forth, but I cannot get a simple sync out of this.
Does anyone have any ideas here? I'm super green when it comes to WiFi, so a step by step here might help!
Thanks all in advance!
Nigel,
so you do not have a wifi router correct?
You are simply connecting to a wifi card on your Desktop PC and using pass through to hit the net?
Here's what I do and it can be frustrating because for ME it seems like it's never the same thing twice.
First, open activesync on your desktop. Choose File>connection settings. Uncheck Serial connection, uncheck USB, and try to sync again. Soft reset if this doesn't work and try to sync again.
If that setup doesn't work, open activesync on your PPC and make sure that you have your home machine set as the machine to link with remotely.
If all that doesn't work, go back into the desktop activesyc and try enabling the serial sync again. Choose Com 2. Try to sync, then try Com1, try again.
This is such a pain, I know, but that's the only way I've had any luck doing it. Just tweaking till it works. Be paitent between the tries. Sometimes it takes a good 3-4 seconds to start it up the first time - to where the AS icon turns green.
Good luck!
Nope, no router...yet. I just want to sync my 4155 with my PC.
This is one of the more frustrating things I've dealt with in the PC world.
I have built computers, set up all the software, etc., but this stumps me. I have absolutely NO idea what VPN or Proxy settings to use (or even IF they're used. You know, so many acronyms). I still can't get this to work, no matter what settings I use. Do I need to set up something particular in the Network settings? I get an extra connection icon in my systray now that I have that PCI card installed. It has the red "X" on it as being disabled. I know it's trying to look for a router or something to connect with.
