Audiovox has announced that they are releasing the PPC 5050, a cellular-wireless handheld that will run the Phone Edition of Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC.
The Phone Edition of Windows Mobile was developed for devices that are primarily used as wireless handhelds but also offer mobile phone functions. The PPC 5050 will support the CDMA2000 1xEVDO and 1xRTT cellular-wireless standards. Audiovox has not yet announced which carriers will be offering this model.
This handheld will have a 3.5-inch QVGA (240 by 320 pixel) screen. It will also include a SD/MMC slot, though it is not yet known if this supports SDIO. Physically, it will be 5.1 inches high, 2.9 inches wide and 0.7 inches thick.
It will have a 1500 mAH Lithium Ion, battery, which Audiovox says will give it up to five hours talk time or 200 hours standby time.
It will be up the the wireless carriers to determine what the PPC 5050 will cost and when it will be available.
