I built my current rig about 4 years ago and it only cost me 900 bucks and is still good today.
You dont have to use the hottest and most expensive parts to have a powerful system you just need to know how to handle and take care of it. I built mine out of budget parts and the most expensive part is the full tower Gigabyte case
