Please help! Trying to upgrade to WM6

I have updated roms on my 8525 before, and everything went smoothly. Now as I try to update my 8525 to WM6 i just cant do it. I downloaded the file from HTC, and when I open it, it just sits at "verifying your computer settings" or something like that, and I like it sit there for about a half hour the first time and still nothing changed. So I unplugged my phone and then it went to the install screen on my comp, so I plugged it back in, and it started up...told you the steps you need to do like connect thru activesync and turn off hibernation, did all that and started it. But the second it starts my phone light turns off and I lose connection to ActiveSync. Then a few seconds later I get an error on my PC. What the heck is the problem here? Thanks for any help I would like to get this done tonight.

Oh, this is a Cingular 8525 that I updated to the ATT rom a few months ago. So is this HTC updage only for the actual ATT 8525s?
