I've got a hp hx2490b, and am just about to get a WD 250Gb passport drive for my birthday.
What I need to know - and I haven't been able to find the answer anywhere else online - is...
1. if anybody manufactures a CF/usb adaptor (ie a CF card with 1 or more USB sockets) - to give my ipaq a usb socket.
2. If I managed to get one, would my ipaq be able to read from the drive?
And yes, the cf/usb bit would have to be externall powered, as I doubt the ipaq would power the drive through the socket.
Check the Ratoc USB adapter card. If you do not have a mass storage driver in your OS image, you will need to load the Ratoc driver in order to access storage media such as your external hard drive. You will need an external power supply since the WM-based USB host port will not supply enough power to spin-up a disk drive, though a flash memory drive will not require any additional power source and it should also provide enough power for either a keyboard or mouse. As you probably already know, there are no WM drivers for optical drives, so no CD or DVD drive support even if they are USB.
