no ring

OK, here's one for you guru's out there..
I got a UTstarcom PPC-6700 off ebay for a good price, the man said it worked flawlessly for two months and then he turned it off and put it in the closet.
after I got the phone, I had a friendly neighborhood cellphone store switch my Alltel number to this phone without a data plan.
it makes calls, and I thought it was a go, but no, it doesn't ring on incoming calls nor does it show I have voicemail. but if I call the voicemail, it's there.

So, any ideas..
it also locked up tighter then a virgins butthole, and I had to load a 3rd party ROM into the phone.
so, any ideas?

It sounds like your line hasn't been properly provisioned to the operator you use. I've only seen this twice before when a phone has been switched between providers. I would recommend taking it back to the shop or contacting your operator and asking them to re-provision the line. Let me know how it goes.
