Help with ipaq 3835

I recently received my first ppc which is a hand-me-down compaq Ipaq 3835. The device hasnt been used for atleast one year. I plugged it in over night to charge and upon removal the ppc just dies. Everytime I plug it back in, it resets to the original start-up(factory i guess) where it makes you run the setup. I am assuming this is a battery problem so I ordered one off of ebay and plan on replacing. Also while ppc is on plugged in, when i check the battery level, the meter is blank not indicating any charge.

Also, when i plug ppc into my laptop through usb, i get system error saying device is not recognized. I am running xp pro with v4.5 of active sync.

So my question is, are both of these problems due to bad batter?
Will replacing the battery also fix the unrecognizable usb device error?

Any help will be greatly appreciated, I know this device isnt supported/produced any more but I really want to get it running.

edit: I got the active sync working, so my only problem is getting ipaq to charge/replace battery

Confirmation on my theory would be awesome thanks again

i have an ipaq 2210 that when i charge the led will blink yellow. when fully charged will be a steady yellow light. if you do not have the manual you should be able to download it at the hp site and see what the led does or what icon indicator shows when charging. hope that helps until you get your new battery.

Thanks for the reply. Ill give more info. When the ppc is plugged in it turns on, no leds light up to indicate charging, when unplugged while on, it imediately turns off and pressing power button does nothing(no lights) When I go into the power settings it doesnt even show a batter level.

So bricked batterY?

The unit works fine when plugged into the outlet so i guess so.

ipaq 3835 battery

The battery is bad in the ipaq, and getting a 3835 battery from ebay will fix this. Getting one of the batteries with the needed tiny screwdriver is a nice option.

The meter being blank for charging, and no blinking yellow light on the front of the unit are symptoms of the dead battery that needs replaced.
Once the battery is replaced, the meter will have a progress bar that will contine from low to high several times until the battery is charged while the yellow light blinks on the front of the ipaq.

Hope this helps.

Vince

Yes, your problem is a dead battery. It almost completely screws your use of the iPAQ. You know your battery is worthless when the charging light doesn't blink when charging. The zero charge inducator is also a dead giveaway. Replace your battery and all is good.
