You can now get an 8525 for $299 from cingular. It is a refurb model, but I don't believe there truly is any difference at all. You get the same warranty and accessories for $100 cheaper. The pictures lead me to believe that the refurb models are branded with the cingular logo, and the new ones have the AT&T logo.
I, personally, am waiting to see it drop even further in price.
I believe some of the rebates involved with amazon require you to sign up for a media service of sorts, which end up having you spend more than what the rebate is worth.

I have the 8525 refub, just love it. is the old cingular, so i recomend you update the rom to 2.15.502.3 @ america.htc.com soft reboot prior synk.
sync your phone first then run the program.
I picked one of the refurbs up from cingular for 74.99 online today... it was 99 and I received an additional 25$ off as a web special. I had to check and recheck it 3 or 4 times and I still have a feeling that something is wrong, but I have the invoice printed out as well as in my email account. I feel a little better hearing that others have had good luck with the refurbs because I thought there may be something horribly wrong with them for that price.

Make sure you get media max unlimited, your phone will be 24/7 log in, unless is off.

Is that the 8125 or 8525? The 8125's have been out of stock, but maybe they're back available. The 8525 refurbs have been $250, unless that has changed.
If I can get a refurb 8525 for that, I may be getting a new phone. How did you get the extra $25 off?
Wow, the refurb 8525's are $100 now. I'm real close to getting one.
What all do these come with as far as accessories? I'm assuming it comes with a wall charger and a sync cable. Is taht right? Or is the sync cable supposed to be used for charging. Other than memory, is there anything else I'd need?

I don't think I understand...how do you go about updating the ROM, exactly?

I plan on having them turn off my messaging alltogether, and just using wifi to connect if I get the phone.
Man, I just got my refurbed 8525 yesterday after ordering it on Friday over the web. Now the price has dropped from $249 to $99 ... I am going to threaten to send it back if they don't refund the $150 difference!!!
Since I am a "business" customer, I am going to try the "threaten" approach first. The phone was delivered yesterday and I have not had time to do anything with it. It would be very easy to send it back. I did put in a "support" e-mail this morning to ask for a refund of the difference. If I don't hear anything from them in the next 48 hours, I will call and ask to return the phone.
The response from AT&T about my asking for a refund was ... NO. If I wanted to return the phone under the 30 day policy I was welcome to do so. I could then (after they reset my 2-year contract), re-order the phone to get what ever the current discount was AT THAT TIME. When I check yesterday, the price for the refurb'd 8525 was now $199 ... so it was now a $50 difference with some serious hassle to get it.
Curiously, the AT&T/Cingular site lists the "no contract" cost for the *new* 8525 as $499 and the refurb'd version @ $599. The pricing is clearly wacked. I guess the excitement over the iPhone intro is making them crazy!
I would not hold that against getting one, because most (if not all) of the refurb's are 30 day returns. I have had them before and I have not had an issue.
Too bad about the price. It makes me wonder if they have an automatic pricing that is based on inventory. Wonder if some folks are having second thoughts and want to hold out for an iPhone?
Given that the price seems to be influx ... just check frequently and you might get lucky and see the $99 price again!
There may be hope yet. There's a section on the home page that talks about deals on refurbished phones and lists the 8525 for $99 (my guess is they neglected to update that part). I called and talked to a rep and he said if I ordered the phone for $199 they'd credit my account the $100 when I called to activate it.
I have my heart set on the 8525. Every review ive read has only had good things to say about it other than it is a bit pricey and physically heavy. I really JUST want the phone right now to play around with and maybe get some service (internet) added to it down the road. I am not about to spend 350 dollars on this phone, and amazon is offering the phone for 159.99 WITH a minimum of a $40/month internet service agreement. I would gladly pay $160 for this awesome phone but would love to get a minimum internet plan (say something like 15 bucks a month just to try it out and see if i will ACTUALLY use it).

Hi, After using my 8125 for 4 months i had to get the 8525 and i love it (i think I am going to married it. LOL) I pay 40 for my unlimited data which includes unlimeted texts from Cingular. they also have less expensive plans. The 299.99 i paid, well spend.
"I think Im going to start a 12 step program for 8525 users. Just Like AA"
I realized I never updated this thread with the even lower prices, but I guess i didn't have to. I'm waiting for it to go down to $99 again, and then I'll be purchasing one.

From everything I've heard, because these pocket PC's display web pages just like a regular computer it would blow through the 5MB and 10MB plans in no time.
I didn't want to spend the $45 a month on a data plan either, which is one of the big selling points for me. Since it's got wi-fi, I'll be able to access the internet anywhere with a hotsop (which these days is about anywhere). Unfortunatlye NOT at work, though, since the only hotspot is the company one, which is behind the same firewall as when I'm sitting at my desk.
No need to spend $160, though. If you're new to Cingular (I'm assuming you are since you're looking at the Amazon deal), their home page has it refurbished for $99 with no minimum plan and no rebate.

Cingular's home page is still advertising them at $99. You might be able to do what I did and call them on it and get the lower price. I did that Friday and I should have it early in the week.

Looking at that makes it seem like $99 is only when bought with a new plan. I'm extending my contract, but I guess a call can't hurt.
I did the same thing. I just called customer service and said that the home page showed it fro $99 and the upgrade price was $199 and asked how I get the $99 price. The guy put me on hold for a couple of minutes and came back saying that he'd put a notation on my account to credit my account $100 when I called to activate it. My bill isn't $100 a month, so it will take two or three months to get my money back, but I can live with that.
