I'm thinking of upgrading to a PDA phone and am debating between the Cingular 8125 and the Blackjack. I was wondering if anyone had experience with them and could give me a good comparison of the two.
Girevik, haven't had too much experience with the Blackjack, but as the owner of a K-Jam (8125 rebranded) and although the specs look similar between the two, I know people with the Treo, and Ipaq devices which are envious of the screen size, although the same pixels, if you're intending on watching movies etc, should be considered seriously.
Although the Blackjack has 3G access, which would be nice, why not consider the HTC Hermes/Tytn (8525) instead because of the increase processor speed from the 190MHz (K-Jam/8125) or 220MHz (Blackjack) to 400MHz (8525/JasJam). You also loose the cramped keyboard for a full spec keyboard, increased screen size, extra camera for video calling, increased capacity camera for pictures/video, and I have aso read a spec sheet which only stated expansion of Micro SD (up to 512MB) which if true is a waste of time for a memory card. I could be corrected on this fact and am willing to concede if anybody has evidence to the contrary. Also read the Blackjack has no Wi-Fi which is not good for mobility other than download charges on high speed data network.
I've had my K-Jam for 12 months now, and after coming from a ipaq 2215 myself, I wouldn't chose a device with a smaller screen and cramped keyboard on the face. Have tried them and not for me. If anybody is thinking of flaming me for this comment - he asked for opinions and as I have said, it is not for "ME".
Just my opinion Girevik - but consider the 8525 as an update on the 8125 for use also.

I used the Blackjack for a period of time and then ultimately purchased the 8525. I enjoyed the sleekness of the Blackjack, but was frustrated by its sole reliance on the keyboard and the lack of software available for it as opposed a PPC. I have also been a Palm user for many years and the Blackjack was the first non-stylus PDA I had ever used. Though I looked forward to freedom from the stylus, I continually found myself looking for the silo to drag it out and do things more directly than having to look for keyboard shortcuts or softkeys. I switched over after a couple of weeks experience with the Blackjack and I haven't looked back since.

I'd love to have the 8525, but I just can't justify $400 for a fancy toy. Since I already have a phone I really like and an Ipaq, I'm not really getting anything more in the way of functionality - I'd just like the convienence of having them in one device. I can get a refurb 8125 for about $70, which is much more in my price range
I personally had both devices and i really like the 8125 for all the fucntions it had and the wiFi was a major asset when traveling but after having the phone for over a year i found it to be combersome and really hard to use when im on the go solely becasue the touch screen was hard to use with my fingers while going about my busy day. But i recently aquired the blackjack and really like it but it did take a few days to get use to the differences in the phones but if your looking for an entry level smart phone thats simple to use and honestly gets the job done.. my vote goes out to the blackjack. I love it and its working great for me and can fit in a pant pocket with no hassle.
I decided on the 8525 - it's much bigger than what I'm used to (coming from a Razr that's not hard), and I'm still trying to learn what all I can do, but so far I really like it.
