I'd like to start off by thanking you guys in advance! I'm a nursing student and in the market for a smartphone. The Cingular 8525 has become my #1 choice but I'm confused about the added cost of internet. I know that it is possible to disable the Edge and only use wifi for internet connection but am curious if there is a way to purchase a data plan, get rid of my home wireless internet and use the 8525 as a modem for my laptop when I'm at home. Like I said, I'm a nursing student and am wanting a smartphone to download helpful software that I can use in clinicals but can't afford to pay for dsl and the data plan and am concerned that by disabling the edge I'll be losing many opportunities to connect to the internet.
Watch out for the medical program addiction in nursing. I'm an ER nurse already and have more programs then I know what to do with! Although a good bedside drug reference is always good and Taber's is nice for a quick look-up of something obscure.
As for you're question, the answer appears to be "yes". I found this after a quick search:
I don't know if I'd recommend this unless you have stellar reception on your phone at the spot where you plan to use it. Also, I think large files may be a bit of a pain, but that's pure conjecture on my part.
Good luck with nursing school! Ride out the pain, it doesn't last longer then 2 years. Of course, there are always the emotional scars...
