using a projector

Hi there, what a great site. I've been diving into the PPC world very quickly (analysis for work) and this is one of the best sites to get info!!! keep up the great work.

I have an HTC P4000 (Tytn) in my hands, playing with it, measuring it's capabilities and one thing I can't seem to find info is hooking it up to a projector to do presentations.

I have found the ShowMate from Impatica ShowMate, but it only runs over bluetooth and is pretty expensive.

The Tytn has a USB dongle for sync to pc, but can use that same port with a USB -> S-Video cable to plug into my projector.

My second inquiry is about actually presenting from these units - does PPT Mobile do a decent job projecting through an overhead projector?

thanks in advance.

Paul

Hi Paul,

I've done a bit of research on your behalf and it would seem what you have found is correct. I've not found a way to get the Power Point from your Tytn to a projector apart from something like the ShowMate. There are other devices that have this function and from my experience it has been "ok" but nothing special. I've had probems with resolutions and fades between slides in the past. If you have found a solution I would be interested to hear about it though?

Thumbs up Impatica Showmate works great

Well, we purchased a Showmate to 'test it out'.

Using a WM4 phone (and old one) with bluetooth, the software installed fine, converted a .ppt file into the Showmate format and transfered to the phone no problem.

we hooked up the showmate device to an Infocus projector. It took a few tries to get the phone to recognize the showmate through bluetooth, but it worked fine.

display was more than pretty good. you could see a bit of degradation on the fonts, but otherwise the presentation was great, all the transitions worked. We tried a simple small .ppt and a large fairly complex one, both worked great.

You only have the ability to navigate next/prev and end of presentation through the phone, so if your presentation has any navigation (hyperlinks etc), we couldn't see a way to get them to work.

Still have to test with a blackberry, but because it worked with a WM4 phone, i'm assuming everything would be fine through a both a newer phone and a BB device.

To wrap up: if you can get past the price ($250 CDN), this device will give you fantastic portability (especially if you have a small projector), wireless presentation navigation (only through bluetooth - tethered through a BB).

Let me know if anybody wants more info on usability or whatnot.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the update. Glad to hear you've had success with the Showmate. I have a few guys out on the road who would be interested in something like this, might splash out for one to try now. THanks for being the guinea pig
